The Washoe, native people of Tahoe, were stewards of Lake Tahoe for 10,000 years. There were 8 original Washoe families around the Lake who lived in harmony with the natural environment and worked collaboratively in service the land, water and air they all shared.
In the 1800′s, there were 8 ferry terminals moving people to various points around the lake. So it is not surprising that today there are 8 strategically located places around the lake that could become GeoCenter’s (view) -interactive visitor/community and training centers that expand the reach and touch of anyone seeking to connect, sustain or enhance the magic that Tahoe offers.
The 8 worlds represent 8 native aspects of the region: Water/lake, River, Mountain, Forest/meadow, Air, Culture/heritage, wildlife, and Urban. The idea is that each GeoCenter host a specific aspect/world while inspiring excitement to experience all 8 – which moves the visitor around the lake via water to land transit.
